# AI tools for social media managers: what to test before choosing

> A demo with polished captions only shows part of the job. Test each tool with the same post, a revision and a question about your results.

## The best tool depends on the unfinished job

An AI tool for social media managers might help with writing, visual assets, publishing, replies or analysis. Before comparing vendors, define which job needs improvement. An app can produce good copy and leave you just as busy pasting it elsewhere, finding files and chasing approvals.

Your evaluation should resemble a working week. Use one of your own posts, a client revision and a question about performance. Keeping the materials consistent gives you a better basis for comparison than a demo prepared by each vendor.

## Test one: does it use the available information?

Provide the same brief: audience, objective, current offer, a voice sample and facts it must not invent. Ask for a short proposal. Check whether it respects restrictions and identifies missing information.

An output that sounds polished but invents a discount needs correction before any aesthetic assessment. Count how much context you had to re-enter. If the information changes weekly, consider how you will keep it current.

## Test two: what happens when someone requests a change?

Request a specific revision: change the main benefit without changing the price. Check where the new version lives, how another person reviews it and whether the right asset stays with the approved copy.

To compare more than a first impression, record:

- **Corrections:** invented facts, missed constraints and changes in voice.
- **Manual work:** copying text, finding assets or repeating the brief.
- **Review:** whether someone else can find the right version and see what is missing.
- **Evidence:** whether you can verify the metrics and open the cited posts.

## Test three: can you check its explanation?

Ask which posts received the most interactions during the same period. Request the metric name, underlying values and original posts. If the tool cannot access those records, it should be clear what you need to provide.

A statement such as “your audience prefers video” needs evidence. Ad spend, topic and publishing frequency may also differ. The [article on analysis with ChatGPT](/en/guides/analyze-social-media-chatgpt-real-data/) explains how to distinguish an observation from a hypothesis.

## Compare the cost of the whole job

Record the subscription price and anything you need alongside it: other subscriptions, additional people, brands, credits and manual steps. Check limits in each vendor's current documentation. An entry price does not describe every team's situation.

You do not need a universal ranking. If approvals are your problem, prioritize review. If your inbox is the problem, test a real conversation with anonymized information. If reporting is the problem, verify the source of the numbers.

## How to include HeyMark in your comparison

Include HeyMark when you need content work connected to planning, publishing, conversations and metrics. The [AI for social media managers page](/en/solutions/ai-for-social-media-managers/) describes its uses; the [comparisons](/en/alternatives/) help you examine differences between tools.

This article is published by HeyMark. The proposed test is neither an independent study nor a measured assessment of competitors. It gives you criteria you can apply to our product too: which job does it finish, and which job does it leave you?
