# How to pin Instagram posts and how many you can pin

> You can pin up to 3 Instagram posts. Learn how to pin and unpin them in the app, then choose what a new visitor should see at the top of your profile.

Pinning an Instagram post keeps it at the top of your profile grid. It can help a first-time visitor find an explanation, an example of your work or the next step.

## How many posts can you pin on Instagram?

**You can pin up to three posts you have shared**, according to Instagram’s official Help Center, checked on October 21, 2026. The maximum is not a target: pin fewer if that makes the profile easier to understand.

## How to pin or unpin a post

Instagram’s [Help Center instructions for pinning a post to your profile](https://help.instagram.com/318456537074409/?cms_platform=iphone-app), checked on October 21, 2026, describe this app flow:

1. Go to your profile and open one of your posts.
2. Tap **Options** at the top.
3. Choose **Pin to main grid**.

To unpin it, return to the post, open **Options** and tap **Unpin from main grid**. Instagram says an unpinned post returns to its original place in the grid. The page checked is the iPhone-app help view; it does not provide instructions for pinning posts from a computer.

## Which posts are worth keeping at the top?

Imagine a fictional bookbinding studio. It has one post explaining which notebooks and repairs it accepts, another showing a finished hand-sewn notebook, and an invitation to a workshop whose registration deadline has passed.

The first two answer questions someone may have before browsing the grid: what the studio does and what its work looks like. The expired invitation no longer helps. It could be replaced by current ordering instructions, but only once that process is confirmed and the page or contact channel is accepting requests.

Use these questions to review your options:

- **What does someone new need to understand?** A post can explain the offer, the kind of customer you serve or your service area.
- **What example shows the actual work?** Choose a piece or case that represents what you do, not a claim you cannot support.
- **Does the next step work today?** Open the link or check the contact route. If registration has closed or a campaign has ended, replace or unpin that post.

Choose posts that answer different questions, and avoid pinning several versions of the same promotion just to fill the top of the profile.

## Review what a new visitor sees

Look at the whole profile from outside your team. Does the first post explain what is needed? Does the example show what the account offers? Does the call to action lead to current information? Check whether a date, price, condition or availability has changed, too.

If you replace a pinned post, save the old one if your team needs it, but do not leave it at the top as if it were current. After pinning the replacement, revisit the profile and confirm it appears as expected.

The [Instagram business bio guide](/en/guides/instagram-business-bio-examples/) helps explain the account name and offer. To keep Stories that answer recurring questions, see the guide to [Instagram Story Highlights](/en/guides/instagram-story-highlights/).
