# Search Console for social profiles: how people find you on Google

> Search Console now shows how people find your Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube accounts on Google. What it measures, how to set it up and what to check monthly.

Since July 2026, Google Search Console lets you add Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube accounts as **platform properties**. Add a profile and you'll see which searches bring people to it from Google: clicks, impressions, CTR and average position, plus Discover and Google News when there's traffic from them. Google [announced it on July 7](https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2026/07/search-console-social-video-platforms) and [opened it to everyone on July 29](https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2026/07/platform-properties-social-video-guide).

## What it measures, and what it doesn't

It only measures Google. If one of your Reels shows up in a short video carousel in Search, that's an impression. If someone taps it, that's a click, even if the video plays in Google's viewer. Instagram Stories count the same way ([Search Console Help](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/17148418)).

- **You get:** clicks, impressions, CTR and average position, the queries and posts behind that traffic, and the countries and devices it comes from.
- **You don't get:** anything that happens inside the platform, like views of a TikTok video or the followers you gained.
- **No history:** data takes a few days to appear, and charts start on the day collection began. Add your accounts today, even if you won't look until next month.

## How to add your accounts

Search Console asks you to prove the account is yours, so do this with whoever has access to each platform. Adding a property doesn't change your profile. It only lets you measure it ([Help: add a property](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/34592)).

### Open the property selector
Go to the [Search Console welcome screen](https://search.google.com/search-console/welcome) or, if you already have properties, click **Add property** in the property selector in the sidebar.

### Pick the platform
Click **Add** next to Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube.

### Authorize the connection
Follow the onscreen steps. You can verify by signing in to the platform or through an automated connection from a website property you already have in Search Console.

### Open the property
You'll see a confirmation message. Click **Go to property**. Reports fill in over the next few days.

### Repeat for every account
Each account is its own property. Two Instagram profiles mean two properties.

Google checks the connection periodically. If it breaks (say, your login to the platform expired), access pauses until you verify again, and then you get the same report back.

## The three reports and what each one is for

### Performance: which searches find you

It shows clicks, impressions, average CTR and average position, with filters for query, post, country, device and date. Discover and Google News reports only show up if you got traffic from them. It answers three questions:

- **What do people type to find you?** Your handle, your business name or a topic. A coffee shop might learn that more people find it through "specialty coffee in Brooklyn" than through its name.
- **Which posts show up on Google?** Each one appears as a URL. Click one to see only its data.
- **Which format does better?** Google's [guide to social and video content](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/monitor-debug/analyze-social-video-content) suggests comparison mode: `/watch` against `/shorts/` on YouTube, and `/p/` against `/reels/` on Instagram. If your Reels show up as `/reel/`, filter by `/reel`, which matches both.

After you publish something important, check the 24 hours view: it shows whether a new search is starting to send people your way.

### Insights: the monthly summary

It puts your click trend, best posts, the queries bringing people in and your audience's countries on one screen. Trending up and down are ranked by the change in clicks versus the previous period, not by percentage. With lots of queries it groups them by theme; with few, you get a simple list ([Insights report help](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/16308503)).

**The totals won't match, and that's expected.**
The summary card at the top counts every click from Google: web, image, video and news. The lists below only count web search, so they can add up to less than the total.

### Achievements: click milestones

It tracks click milestones from Search. For a new property it can take about 28 days to show anything, and Google notes that it [wasn't designed to reflect how its ranking systems work](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/16543604). Use it for your report, not as a goal.

## What to change based on the data

Google's guide for creators suggests three actions:

- If an older post starts pulling in searches again, pin it to your profile, mention it on your other channels or film a part two.
- If a query is growing, use it in your next idea, caption or hashtags.
- If you rewrite a YouTube title or a TikTok caption, add an [annotation](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/16530728) that day (right-click the Performance chart) and compare the weeks that follow.

That guide doesn't mention your profile name, bio or handle. If you change them, treat it as a test and annotate it too:

- **Profile name and bio.** If people search for your business name and your profile only shows your handle, add the name.
- **One handle everywhere.** Anyone searching your handle on Google types the same thing for every platform, and you can compare a single query across your properties.

Change one thing at a time, or you won't know what moved the numbers.

## How it fits with your website

Your site and each account live in separate properties. To make them work together:

**Link both ways.** Put your site's URL in every bio and link your profiles from the site, using the same URLs everywhere.

**List your profiles with sameAs.** In [Organization structured data](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/organization), `sameAs` is the list of your profile URLs. Google says this markup, on your home page or about page, can help it understand your organization and tell it apart from others in search results. It isn't required for platform properties. Hand this to whoever manages your site:

```html
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "Organization",
"name": "Your brand",
"url": "https://www.example.com/",
"sameAs": [
"https://www.instagram.com/your_handle/",
"https://www.tiktok.com/@your_handle",
"https://x.com/your_handle",
"https://www.youtube.com/@your_handle"
]
}
</script>
```

## Limits and open questions

As of September 2026:

- **Rollout.** Google's blog says it has been available to everyone since July 29, but the help page still describes a gradual rollout. If you don't see the platforms when you add a property, it may not have reached you yet.
- **API.** The [Search Console API](https://developers.google.com/webmaster-tools/v1/searchanalytics/query) documentation doesn't mention these properties. The documented way to get data out is to [export it](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/12919797) to Google Sheets, Excel or CSV, up to 1,000 rows.
- **Sharing access.** The [users and permissions help](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/7687615) doesn't mention them. Whether you can add another person to a platform property isn't documented.
- **Business accounts.** Google also doesn't say which role you need to authorize an account a team manages, like an Instagram account run through Meta Business Suite.

## A 30-minute monthly routine

On the first Monday of each month:

1. **Check the connection** and re-verify any property that asks.
2. **Insights, last 28 days:** total clicks, top three countries, and what's trending up and down.
3. **Performance, queries:** compare with the previous 28 days. Flag new queries, and the ones you expected that aren't there.
4. **Performance, posts:** look for older posts climbing again.
5. **Export every property into one spreadsheet** to compare platforms side by side.
6. **Check your annotations:** every change you made this month should have one.
7. **Pick two actions** and put them on the calendar.

Your first month has nothing to compare against: the property has no history.

## Where HeyMark fits

Search Console shows you what happens on Google. What happens inside the platforms needs its own home, and that's where [HeyMark](/en/) comes in: you plan and [schedule posts](/en/solutions/schedule-social-media-posts/) on one calendar for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube, answer comments and DMs from one [unified inbox](/en/solutions/unified-social-inbox/), and see analytics for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn. The two actions from your monthly routine go on that calendar. HeyMark doesn't publish to X, so you'll keep running that account separately.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need a website to use it?
No. Google built platform properties for creators without a website too. You verify by signing in to the platform.

### Does it work with Facebook or LinkedIn?
No. As of September 2026, Search Console supports four platforms: Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube.

### Is this the same as a Google Search profile?
No. A [Search profile](https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/16904498) is a separate product. As of September 2026 it's only available in the United States and requires at least 10,000 followers on one platform and being 18 or older. If you've already claimed one, your verified accounts show up in Search Console automatically.

### Can I add my clients' accounts?
Yes, as long as you can verify them. A Search Console account can hold up to 1,000 properties. What isn't documented is whether you can then share a platform property with someone else.

### Can I see a competitor's data?
No. To add a property, you have to prove the account or channel is yours.

### Is it worth it for a small account?
Google doesn't document a follower minimum for platform properties. The 10,000 minimum applies to Search profiles.
