# Cross-post Instagram Reels to TikTok without uploading twice

By HeyMark · Reviewed by Crescente Martinez, CMO and co-founder of HeyMark · Updated September 25, 2026

You shot a Reel for Thursday's launch and you want it on TikTok too. To cross-post an Instagram Reel to TikTok you don't need to upload the video twice or paste the caption by hand: in HeyMark you duplicate the Reel as a TikTok video, change what TikTok handles differently and schedule both posts for the same time. Below: what carries over and what doesn't, what you have to decide on TikTok, and what Instagram and TikTok actually say in writing about watermarks.

## What carries over when you duplicate a Reel for TikTok

Posting to Instagram and TikTok at the same time from HeyMark means duplicating the post to another network and format. The copy lands as a new draft, and it isn't scheduled or published until you decide.

| Part of the Reel | Carries over to the TikTok copy? |
|---|---|
| Caption | Yes, and you adjust it for TikTok afterward |
| Idea and script | Yes |
| Video and other files | Yes, without re-uploading |
| Cover | Yes |
| Planning labels | Yes |
| Music you added inside Instagram | No |
| Link to the original post | No |

Whatever is inside the file, like your voice or the sound you recorded, travels with the video. If you picked the song in the Instagram app, the copy goes out without it, so sort out the audio before you schedule.

If you run several brands, you can also duplicate a post into another brand in your account. How that works with clients is in [HeyMark for agencies](https://heymark.ai/en/solutions/agencies/).

## What TikTok asks you to decide before scheduling

TikTok has settings Instagram doesn't. On the copy, you set:

- **Privacy:** public, friends (mutual followers), followers or only me.
- **Comments, Duet and Stitch:** whether you allow them.
- **Commercial content disclosure:** none, your own brand, or branded content for a third party.
- **AI-generated content:** the label TikTok shows on content made with AI.

Check the caption too: HeyMark shows each network's limits before you write too much. If you schedule TikTok from a computer, continue with [scheduling TikTok on desktop](https://heymark.ai/en/solutions/schedule-tiktok-on-desktop/).

If you use Claude or ChatGPT connected to HeyMark, one message does it:

#### Duplicate Thursday's Reel for TikTok

```text
Use HeyMark with the brand [brand name].
Duplicate the Reel I have scheduled for [Thursday at 7 p.m.] as a TikTok video.
Make it public, with comments on, Duet and Stitch off, the commercial content disclosure set to my own brand and the AI label off, since we filmed the video ourselves.
Before scheduling, show me the copy with its caption, settings, date, time and time zone.
Once I approve, schedule it for the same time as the Reel.
```

Duplicating and scheduling run right away, with no preview, which is why the prompt asks to see the copy first. In ChatGPT, these actions need developer mode. Everything your assistant can do on that network is on the [TikTok MCP server](https://heymark.ai/en/mcp/tiktok/) page.

## The watermark question: what Instagram and TikTok say

Three rules published by the platforms themselves, checked on September 25, 2026:

- **Instagram, on downloads.** Its Help Center says downloaded Reels include an Instagram watermark, your username and audio attribution ([Who can download your Instagram reels](https://help.instagram.com/520831036611383/)).
- **TikTok, on recommendations.** Its Community Guidelines (August 2026 version) keep reused or unoriginal content posted without creative edits out of the For You feed, and give clips that show someone else's watermark or logo as the example ([Integrity and Authenticity](https://www.tiktok.com/safety/en/policies-and-engagement/integrity-authenticity)).
- **Instagram, on recommendations.** It tries to show fewer Reels that contain borders, logos or watermarks, or that aren't original videos. It adds that your followers still see your Reels in their feed and on your profile, without reduced visibility ([What kind of reels you may see on Instagram](https://help.instagram.com/1525585517644948/)).

The practical fix is to upload the original file, not a download:

**Do this**

Upload the file you exported from your editor to TikTok, or duplicate the Reel you built in HeyMark: the copy uses the same file you uploaded.

**Not this**

Download the Reel from Instagram and upload that download to TikTok: it arrives with Instagram's watermark and your username.

## Adding Facebook Reels and YouTube Shorts

The same Reel can also go out as a Facebook Reel and a YouTube Short: you duplicate the post for each network and format, the same way you do for TikTok. On YouTube you set the title, visibility (public, private or unlisted), whether it's made for kids and the altered or synthetic content disclosure.

For Facebook there's a free route inside Instagram: when you create a Reel in the Instagram app for Android or iPhone, you can share it to Facebook. The Help Center notes that the feature isn't available to everyone and that you can only share a Reel when you create it ([Share Instagram reels to Facebook](https://help.instagram.com/459497729122868/)). In HeyMark, the Facebook Reel is a separate post with its own caption and its own time.

## When another tool fits better

HeyMark publishes to Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube. It doesn't publish to X, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky or Google Business Profile. Metricool and Buffer also schedule one post to several networks at once, with edits per network (we checked on September 25, 2026, in [Metricool's guide to posting on multiple platforms](https://metricool.com/post-on-multiple-social-media-platforms/) and [Buffer's Help Center](https://support.buffer.com/article/644-how-do-i-schedule-posts-for-multiple-social-channels-at-the-same-time)), and they cover networks HeyMark doesn't: Metricool covers X, Threads and Pinterest (X is a paid add-on), and Buffer includes X, Threads and Bluesky among its 12 networks. Both have free plans; HeyMark has a 7-day trial. If your list of networks includes X, Threads or Pinterest, one of them is the better fit.

What HeyMark adds is everything around the video: the idea and script on the same post, an approval link on every plan and, once the posts are live, comments from both networks in one inbox, where Mark replies in your brand's voice.

| Fact | HeyMark | Metricool | Buffer |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Networks | Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube | Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, Twitch, Google Business Profile and X ($10 USD add-on per account) | 12 networks, including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Threads and Bluesky |
| Free plan or trial | No free plan. 7-day free trial on every plan | 1 brand, 20 posts a month and 30 days of analytics. No LinkedIn or X | Yes, with channel and post limits |
| Starting price | $12 USD a month (Creator: 1 brand, 1 person). Company: $30 USD with 3 brands and 5 people | Free plan. Starter from $20 USD a month billed yearly ($25 monthly) for 5 brands | Free plan. Paid plans charge per channel, from about $6 USD a month per channel |

## How to get started

1. Start the 7-day trial and connect Instagram and TikTok on the My accounts screen (one account per network in each brand).
2. Create the Reel: upload the original file, write the caption and pick the cover.
3. Duplicate it as a TikTok video and, if you want, as a Facebook Reel or a YouTube Short.
4. On each copy, review the caption and that network's settings.
5. Schedule each post for the time that works. If your Instagram needs more options, like Trial Reels or collaborators, see [how to schedule Instagram Reels](https://heymark.ai/en/solutions/schedule-instagram-reels/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you post to Instagram and TikTok at the same time?

Yes, with a tool that publishes to both. In HeyMark you build the Reel, duplicate it as a TikTok video and schedule both posts for the same time, each with its own network's settings.

### How do I repost Reels to TikTok without the watermark?

Upload the original file, not a download: Instagram's Help Center says downloaded Reels include an Instagram watermark, your username and audio attribution. In HeyMark, the TikTok copy uses the same file you uploaded.

### Will Instagram or TikTok notice if I post the same video on both?

What both platforms publish on this points to watermarks and unoriginal content. Instagram shows fewer Reels with logos or watermarks, and TikTok keeps reused content posted without creative edits, like clips with someone else's watermark, out of the For You feed.

### Should I post the same video on Instagram and TikTok?

It depends on your audience. If you do, post from the original file and review the caption and cover of each copy, which HeyMark lets you set separately before scheduling.

### Is there a free way to cross-post?

Uploading the original file by hand in each app is free, and Metricool and Buffer have free plans with limits. HeyMark has no free plan: it has a 7-day trial and then starts at $12 USD a month.

### Can I add Facebook Reels and YouTube Shorts?

Yes. You duplicate the same post as a Facebook Reel and as a YouTube Short. On YouTube you set the title, visibility, the made-for-kids setting and the altered or synthetic content disclosure.
