# Label commercial TikTok content for your brand or a partnership

By HeyMark · Updated October 14, 2026

Before publishing commercial content on TikTok, identify who you are promoting and choose the matching disclosure: **Your brand** for your own business or **Branded content** when posting on behalf of another company. TikTok says to turn disclosure on when you promote a brand, product, or service. It also requires compliance with its policies and applicable laws. The platform label alone does not determine every legal obligation. [Read TikTok's guidance on promoting a brand, product, or service](https://support.tiktok.com/en/business-and-creator/creator-and-business-accounts/promoting-a-brand-product-or-service).

## Choose the option that describes the relationship

- If the post promotes your own business, choose **Your brand**. TikTok labels the post **Promotional content**.
- If you promote another business through a commercial relationship, such as payment or an incentive, choose **Branded content**. TikTok labels it **Paid partnership**.
- If the option is available, you can tag the brand partner. Check that you selected the right account before confirming.

TikTok's Help Center says you can turn disclosure on after posting as well. Once the post or LIVE is published with that label, it cannot be changed; if you chose the wrong option, the documented remedy is to remove the post or LIVE and create it again with the correct selection. Before deleting content, keep a working copy and check who manages the account.

## Turn on disclosure before posting in the app

1. Prepare the post and open **Content disclosure and ads** on the creation screen. If it is not there, TikTok says to look under **More options**.
2. Turn on **Disclose commercial content**.
3. Choose **Your brand** or **Branded content** based on who receives the promotion.
4. If relevant, review the permissions before tagging a Brand Partner. Tagging a partner can include ads authorization, with a default 60-day period according to TikTok; check what you are granting.
5. Save the choice, confirm it, and check that the right label appears before posting.

In a browser, TikTok documents **Upload → Select videos → Show more**. Turn on **Disclose post content**, choose the option, and check the rest of the post before publishing. The interface can vary by version or region.

### Fictional example

A cafe posts its own menu and chooses Your brand. A creator presents another company's coffee machine in exchange for payment or another incentive and chooses Branded content. If the benefit or relationship is unclear, check the agreement before choosing.

## Review before sharing

Check who is promoting whom, the type of relationship, the visible label, and the partner's identity. Also follow any disclosures required by law, contract, or advertising rules in the market where people will see the post. Additional disclosures depend on the market and commercial relationship.

TikTok says turning this setting on does not affect feed distribution. That statement is about its disclosure setting; it does not predict an individual post's reach.
