Codex responds faster when you change direction

Official cover of the ChatGPT desktop app documentation.

OpenAI is rolling out faster responses to follow-up messages that change a Codex task’s direction in the ChatGPT desktop app. The update appears in the October 8 release notes. Availability varies during the rollout.

Steer the current task or prepare the next one

According to OpenAI’s Codex guide, a follow-up message can steer work in progress or wait in the queue for a new task.

In the desktop app, choose the behavior in Settings → General → Follow-up behavior. For example, a correction to work already underway belongs to the current task; a separate request can wait for the next one.

The announcement concerns how these messages are handled during a task. That release note provides no percentage improvement in model performance and no new benchmark.
