GPT-6 Astra Pro is getting faster replies, better use of plugins and tools, and agents that can work in parallel in ChatGPT. OpenAI announced the update on October 16 for Pro users in the Chat tab. You can follow each agent’s progress and open completed tasks to review its work.

To find it in your account, check the name used in the picker: OpenAI’s help page calls the chat option GPT-6 Pro, powered by Astra. Your subscription plan and your chosen thinking level are separate things.

What changed in GPT-6 Astra Pro?

OpenAI’s announcement and the October 16 release notes describe three improvements:

  • Faster replies. Neither gives a percentage speedup or timings for a specific task.
  • Better use of plugins and tools. The announcement describes how the model uses them to carry out work; it does not list new plugins or say every plugin is enabled automatically.
  • Parallel agents. Agents can handle different parts of a task. You can follow their progress in the conversation and open each agent’s completed work.

That last change deserves a closer look: alongside the final answer, you can inspect the tasks that contributed to it. OpenAI has not published how many agents each account can run or the criteria used to split a request in this update.

Are there results or benchmarks for this update?

OpenAI has not published benchmarks or response timings for this upgrade. “Faster” is the provider’s description: the announcement and release notes do not include a before-and-after test that measures the improvement.

They also do not announce a new message allowance or price for this update.

The model documentation still describes limits for GPT-6 Pro and says a Pro subscription does not include unlimited use of that model. The Pro tiers help page explains allowance differences and terms for existing subscriptions. Today’s post does not confirm a reset for your account or replace those terms.

These sources also contain no new comparison showing how the upgrade performs against Gemini 4 Argon or Opus. The benchmarks in our Argon comparison describe their published versions and configurations; they do not measure this Astra Pro update in Chat.

Is it available on ChatGPT Pro, Plus or Business?

The post specifies Pro users in Chat. The release notes describe a rollout to eligible Pro accounts and say availability in managed workspaces depends on settings and rollout eligibility. Choose your situation to separate this announcement from general access to Astra.

Look for GPT-6 and Pro effort in Chat

The announcement includes Pro users. The release notes describe a rollout to eligible accounts, so check which options your account shows.

In a Chat conversation, check both the model and the thinking level. High or Extra High alone is not enough: the help page distinguishes them from Pro.

Astra in Work or Codex is separate access

OpenAI’s help page includes Astra in Work and Codex for Plus, but does not include Pro effort in Chat for that plan. Today’s announcement does not extend that access to Plus.

Check which tab you are using before comparing your account with the announcement. A missing Pro option does not by itself mean something is broken.

Check your workspace’s access

The help page lists GPT-6 Pro for Business and Enterprise. This update’s release notes make availability in managed workspaces conditional on settings and rollout eligibility.

If the option is missing, ask your workspace admin about model permissions. General access to the model does not establish that this upgrade is already enabled for your organization.

Check the OpenAI help page

Official sources checked October 16. This selector explains the documentation; it does not inspect or change your account.

In the picker, GPT-6 at High or Extra High is different from GPT-6 Pro. The help page distinguishes the levels powered by Sol from the Pro option powered by Astra. Access to Astra in Work or Codex also does not establish that this Chat update is enabled for your account.

What if the option is missing?

Check your account, tab and model first: open Chat with the eligible account and look for GPT-6 with Pro effort. Workspace permissions also matter in an organization. The help page recommends updating your app; on desktop it specifies Menu → Check for Updates, even if you already received an automatic update notification.

If it is still missing, rollout and eligibility remain part of the official explanation. The announcement cannot establish from outside whether a particular account has access yet.
