OpenAI announced on October 21 that it is expanding ChatGPT Ads to 26 additional countries. The company puts the number of countries where the service is available to advertisers at 89. Among the new markets, it named Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Peru, along with other countries in Africa, Europe, and Asia. The expansion extends availability without announcing a new ad format. Who can access the ads and where they appear

According to OpenAI, advertisers in the new markets can access the platform through technology partners or through self-service in Ads Manager. The company says ads are shown on ChatGPT’s Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, and Enterprise remain ad-free. (OpenAI)

The post describes ads as an opportunity to reach someone as they explore a decision in a conversation. As an illustrative example, it imagines someone preparing for their first marathon and discussing meals for race week. If they specify their dietary preferences and the time they have available, a relevant ad could show them a meal delivery service. OpenAI presents this scenario as an example of how advertising could fit into the consideration stage, not as a real campaign or a measured result. (OpenAI)

Privacy, figures, and future plans

OpenAI says conversations remain private from advertisers and that it does not sell customer data. It also says ads are identified and kept separate from responses, and do not influence them. The company reports that more than 100,000 advertisers have already run campaigns since ChatGPT Ads launched, and that ChatGPT has more than 1,200 million weekly users. (OpenAI)

The company says its next stage will involve developing more formats, objectives, buying options, and measurement capabilities. It also says it is exploring more native ways for businesses to interact with consumers within ChatGPT. OpenAI does not present these elements as features that are already available or give them a launch date. (OpenAI)
