Reddit Tests Ads in Search Results

1 min read
Two white avatars with rounded ears, red eyes, and open mouths float against a bright green background.

On November 3, 2026, Reddit announced a test of ads on its search results pages. The company describes this as a high-intent search and shopping context. It is an initial test, with access limited to a select group of eligible advertisers. Reddit announcement

How ads relate to queries

Contextual relevance, meaning the connection between an ad and the topic being searched, may be one of the factors that determine which ads appear. Reddit illustrates how the placements are expected to work with two examples: a search for “espresso station” could show espresso machines, coffee beans, or mugs; a search for “home office setup” could show monitors, desks, or office chairs.

These examples describe possible ads, not test results. While access remains limited to the selected group, Reddit will assess how users respond in order to refine the experience for them and advertisers. Test details
