Can't find a song in Instagram's music library? What to check
By HeyMark · Updated
If you are preparing a Story, Reel or post and cannot find the song you want, first note where you are searching and which account you are using. Meta sets different limits by account, format and country or region. Check those details, then review the audio option available for that content.
Check the account, format and region
Meta says certain business accounts and certain types of posts do not have access to the licensed music library. Availability can also vary by country or region. This does not mean every business account is excluded.
- Confirm that you are using the Instagram account that will publish the content.
- Note the format you are preparing, such as a Story or Reel.
- Search for the track in that format’s editor. If Instagram shows an availability notice, read it before changing anything.
The licensed music library is intended for personal, non-commercial use. Do not change your account type to try to get around licensing conditions; Meta’s help does not say that doing so will unlock a specific song. Read Instagram’s access guidance.
Check Meta’s alternative
If your account cannot access the licensed library, Meta says you may be able to use Sound Collection. To find music, open the Music sticker in Stories or tap Audio in the Reels camera, depending on the format you are creating. Meta describes Sound Collection as suitable for commercial use, including ads.
Sound Collection is an alternative with its own tracks and terms. It does not restore access to the licensed library or guarantee that it contains the song you were looking for. If a track is missing, choose another one available for that content and check its terms before publishing.
Check before publishing
Return to the editor for the format you plan to use and confirm that the selected audio appears in the preview. If a track is missing, search again in the format you will publish and review any message from Instagram. If a notice points to an account or regional restriction, Meta’s help does not provide a way around it.
