Instinct raises $1 billion for its personal AI agent

Today’s announcement
Instinct announced $1 billion in funding on September 28 at a $10 billion valuation. Sequoia, Benchmark and Coatue participated. The company says its personal agent, still in early access, can handle requests such as calls and bookings using a phone and computer.
Those capabilities are company claims. The funding is not independent evidence of reliability.
A booking is a useful test of an agent
A reservation looks straightforward until constraints appear: a different time, cancellation terms or someone who must confirm a decision. A useful assistant needs to know when it can proceed and when it needs another instruction.
Consider a hypothetical request: book a table for four, without paying a deposit, within a particular time window. The restaurant’s confirmation makes the outcome checkable. A convincing answer alone does not establish that the task is complete.
What teams automating work can learn
The comparison with marketing operations is practical. Before automating, define:
- What counts as a completed task.
- Which conditions cannot change without consultation.
- What evidence the requester will receive.
These are criteria for evaluating agents, not verified Instinct features.
The funding figure describes the size of the bet. For a prospective user, access, price and performance on real tasks are the next questions. Our evaluation of AI tools recommends comparing revisions and manual steps alongside the final result.
