TikTok removed a feature because of your age: how to appeal
By HeyMark · Updated
If you can still access TikTok but a notice says a feature was removed because of your age, you can request a review from that notification. Open the notice to confirm which feature was restricted and start the appeal within 180 days of losing access.
Appeal from the notification
- Open TikTok’s notification about the removed feature.
- Tap Appeal and follow the instructions to confirm your age.
- Check your account notifications for the result. TikTok does not say how long an appeal takes.
The confirmation option depends on your age and location. TikTok may offer a selfie with ID for people aged 16 or older; confirmation by a parent or guardian, including a photo with a trusted adult over 25 for teens aged 16 or 17; or temporary credit card authorization for people aged 18 or older. Follow only the options shown in your notice. TikTok says it uses the information to confirm your age and share the result; when the process ends, it starts deleting selfies and ID photos, while retaining some records and provider verification information. See TikTok’s official help on minimum age appeals.
Check the feature’s age requirement
TikTok lists these minimum ages: 16 to send and receive direct messages; 18 to go LIVE and buy Coins; and 19 to buy Coins in South Korea. Availability may depend on your age and location, so check your account notice and local options.
If the notice bans your whole account because TikTok believes you do not meet the minimum age, that is a different flow. Follow the guide to appealing an underage account ban.
Request data before each deadline
You can use Download your data to request data that does not violate TikTok’s Community Guidelines. Deadlines depend on the type of data:
| Data | Request deadline |
|---|---|
| LIVE replays | 30 days from the date each replay was created |
| Direct messages | 113 days; 180 days if you are in the EEA; 23 days if you are in the U.S. |
The 180-day window to appeal the feature starts when access is removed; the 30-day window for LIVE replays starts when each replay is created. For direct messages, TikTok lists a 180-day extension for the EEA and does not extend it to the U.K. or Switzerland. A data request does not restore a feature or guarantee that all messages or videos will be available. See TikTok’s help section on requesting certain data.
