TikTok banned your account for being underage: how to appeal a mistake
By HeyMark · Updated
If TikTok banned your whole account because it believes you are underage and you think that is a mistake, you can appeal from the notification and request your data while the window is open. First check the date on the notice and the proof option shown for your age and location.
Appeal from the ban notification
- Open the age-ban notification in TikTok.
- Tap Appeal and follow the steps in the app.
- Provide your real date of birth and complete only the official method TikTok offers. TikTok will notify you of the result.
Options depend on your age and location. They may include a government-issued ID and three selfies from different angles, a real-time selfie with your ID through Incode, temporary credit card authorization for people aged 18 or older, or facial age estimation. Not every option is available to every account. Do not send documents in comments, direct messages, or external pages; use the flow opened from the notification. See TikTok’s documented underage appeal methods.
Separate the appeal deadline from the deletion date
TikTok counts these periods from the date it bans the account. The time to appeal and request data is different from the date TikTok deletes the account and starts deleting its data if the appeal is not submitted or approved.
| Location listed by TikTok | Appeal and request data | Account deletion if no appeal is submitted or approved |
|---|---|---|
| General | 113 days | Day 120 |
| EEA, U.K., or Switzerland | 180 days | Day 187 |
| U.S. | 23 days | Day 30 |
Check the ban date in your notice and use the deadline TikTok lists for your location. Do not wait until the deletion date to request data; the download window closes earlier.
Request and download a copy of your data
- Tap Download your data in the account ban notification.
- Choose a file format and tap Request data. Preparing the file may take a few days.
- When TikTok says it is ready, open the notification and tap Download data. The file remains available for up to four days.
TikTok says you can request the download only within the same 113-, 180-, or 23-day window for your location. A request does not guarantee every item will be available or unblock your account. See TikTok’s official underage ban help.
What happens to verification data
TikTok says it starts deleting the information you submitted, including ID photos, selfies, and the email used to share the result, after the appeal is complete. The page also allows for legal retention in some jurisdictions and says certain appeal or provider authentication records remain. If you use Incode, the provider retains the information you submit, and you request its deletion through your Incode account. Do not assume all data disappears immediately.
If the notice says only a feature was removed and you can still access your account, this is not the full account ban described here. Follow how to appeal a feature removed because of age. Follow the age confirmation method TikTok offers for your case.
