Can't log in to TikTok without your verification method? What to do
By HeyMark · Updated
Is TikTok asking for a code you can no longer receive or generate? Start by identifying which method you lost. TikTok documents friend verification for some account access problems and a separate route to reset an authenticator. Follow the path that matches your situation; submitting a request does not guarantee you will regain access.
If you can no longer use your email or phone
In the TikTok app, go to Help and tap Recover your account. Search for your account by username, email, or linked phone number. If you cannot complete sign-in, tap Can’t access these? and choose to ask friends to verify your account. Follow the prompts to start the request and share it with the friends TikTok asks you to contact.
This option requires at least two friends who are connected on TikTok. Their confirmation window is limited, and daily requests are also limited, but the help page does not specify the exact duration or daily number. Ask your friends to check the request promptly. If verification succeeds, TikTok says it will log you in automatically. If it does not, TikTok will notify you so you can retry or use another available recovery option.
If you lost access to your authenticator app
Friend verification and resetting an authenticator are separate routes. If you lost access to a third-party authenticator app, tap Can’t access the app in TikTok. Enter the recovery code you received when you set up account verification with the authenticator. TikTok calls this a time-based one-time password (TOTP). If it is correct, you will reach the settings page; follow the steps there to reset your authentication method. Do not confuse this recovery code with a new temporary code generated by your app.
If you also lost the TOTP recovery code, tap Need more help? and provide the information TikTok requests to verify your identity. Once verification is complete, you can reset the method. TikTok says this process may take up to 30 days. That timeframe applies to this identity check, not every account recovery request.
Check the result and what to do next
Continue only in the app or TikTok’s official Help Center. If verification fails or the option does not appear for your account, return to the recovery screen and review the options available there. A correct password does not replace a second factor when TikTok asks for one, and these routes do not resolve a suspension, a deleted account, or an email change you can still manage through your email provider.
If you can still access your account and a different account is using your identity, follow how to report an impersonating profile; that is not an account-access recovery.
After you regain access, review your sign-in methods and store the TOTP recovery code somewhere secure. Do not share passwords or codes with anyone offering to unlock your account outside TikTok. See the steps in TikTok’s Account safety help.
