Add a related video to a YouTube Short
By HeyMark · Updated
After uploading your Short, open YouTube Studio and select a related video to lead viewers to other content on your channel from the Shorts player. You can choose a video, another Short, or a live stream from your channel; viewers see a clickable link below your channel handle.
The feature requires advanced feature access. The content you select must be public or unlisted and follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines. This setting links YouTube content; it does not add an external URL. You set this relationship in Studio after uploading the Short. If you haven’t uploaded it yet and want to publish later, follow how to schedule a Short in Studio. YouTube MCP explains the workflow with an assistant connected to HeyMark.
If you want to send viewers to an external website, see what to do when a Short’s link is not clickable.
Choose the destination first
Think about what content completes the Short’s promise. If the Short introduces a recipe, the destination could be a video on your channel showing the full method. If it answers a common question, it could lead to another Short that explains one step. Choose content from your channel that adds context, and check that it’s public or unlisted. A private video does not meet the requirement in YouTube’s help.
Add the related content in Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio with the channel that published the Short.
- Open Content from the left menu and select the Short you want to edit.
- Find the Related video setting and choose a video, Short, or live stream from your channel.
- Save your changes. Return to the Short’s details and check that your selection still appears as its related video.
Fictional example: a bakery uploads a Short showing how to score bread dough before baking. In Studio, it selects the public video on its channel that shows the full recipe. After saving, the team checks that it selected the full video rather than a different Short with a similar title.
If Related video isn’t available, check the channel’s advanced feature access. If your content doesn’t appear in the picker, confirm that it belongs to the same channel and is public or unlisted. After saving, viewers will see the link below the channel handle.
Follow YouTube’s official instructions for adding a related video. Make this change after uploading the Short, as those instructions describe.
