How to send a link by DM with a keyword in HeyMark

HeyMark!heymark.ai · Instagram
Ever seen a Reel that says “comment a word and I’ll send you the link” and wondered how to set that up for your own posts? Choose a word, write the public reply and DM, then add a button with your link. Once you save and activate the rule, a matching comment can trigger the reply and DM. This guide takes you from opening HeyMark to checking that the person can access your resource.
HeyMark helps you plan and publish your brand’s posts, manage comments and messages, and review content performance. Mark is the assistant inside the product. This walkthrough uses Rules only, so you’ll write each message yourself.
You can see the idea in Brock Johnson’s Reel, where he asks people to comment STAN, or in Sean Cannell’s post, where he asks for AMY to share the link to his conversation with Amy Porterfield. Those posts show the word being requested and the resource offered. We haven’t tested their DMs or confirmed which tool runs their replies. We’ll use HeyMark’s Reel script template as our example. You can swap in your own menu, catalogue or guide.
These demos use HeyMark’s real interface, with SCRIPT as the example word. The final step explains how to activate the rule and test it from another account once your post is live.
Before setting the keyword
You’ll need a HeyMark account with your brand’s Instagram connected, a post for that account and a URL that commenters can open. The post can be a draft, scheduled or already published. You can prepare the rule before publishing, so it is ready when the post goes live.
If you’re new to HeyMark, choose Start free on the official landing and complete your account, brand and Instagram connection first.
In the caption or closing line of your Reel, ask people to comment SCRIPT to receive the template. This example links to the script guide, which includes the text template.
Open the resource in a window where you aren’t signed in. Check the language and download. If you plan to share a Drive catalogue, check its permissions and confirm that someone else can open it without requesting access.
Configure the reply on the post
- Open HeyMark and sign in
Start at heymark.ai/en/, HeyMark’s official English landing. Choose Log in at the top right, then Sign in on the access screen.
Enter your Email address and Password, then choose Sign in. If you use Google to access your account, choose Continue with Google instead. Use Forgot your password? to recover access if needed.
If HeyMark already opens to your brand because you’re signed in, continue with the next step.
Open the English landing and sign-in form. No credentials are entered in the demo. - Select your brand and open Content
Check your brand’s name at the top left. If you manage more than one, use that selector to choose the brand whose Instagram post you want to automate. The clips use our own HeyMark brand; select yours.
Open Content from the sidebar. At the top right, choose Calendar or Board to find the post.
Check your brand and open Content from the sidebar. - Choose the Instagram post, before or after publishing
In Board, open your post from Draft or Scheduled. If it is already live, find it under Published; scroll right if that column is off screen. In Calendar, use Previous and Next to reach the month or week containing the post, then click its card on the assigned date. Click +1 more if the day has posts hidden from view. Both views open the same post.
If you are preparing a new Reel, add the post in Content, select Instagram, upload your video and write the caption. You can configure the reply while it is still a draft. Check the post’s title and Instagram account before continuing.
Open Board and find the post under Draft. It does not need to be published to configure the rule. Open the draft on its assigned date. Calendar and Board lead to the same post and configuration. For an existing Reel, open its card on the publication date. This demo shows our August post. - Open the automatic comment reply form
Inside the post, find the Instagram Reel section and scroll past the caption settings to Reply to comments automatically. On a published post, this control appears with its comments. Click it to open the form with With AI and Rules only options.
On a draft, the form says It starts replying as soon as you publish. You can prepare the messages now; replies begin once the post is live and the rule is active.
Open the reply form inside the selected post. - Add the keyword
Select Rules only, then One or more specific words. Type
SCRIPTand press Enter. The word should appear as a chip inside the field.Use the same word in your post’s closing line: “Comment SCRIPT and I’ll DM you the template.” The field’s help says recognition is unaffected by uppercase, lowercase or accents. Choose a word that’s easy to type and related to what you’re delivering.
Select Rules only to write the messages the commenter will receive. Select One or more specific words, type SCRIPT and press Enter. Check that the word appears as a chip. - Write the public reply
Keep Reply to their comments on the post enabled and enter the text. In this example, we use:
Public reply
We sent you the template by DM.
The field should show the full sentence and the switch should remain on. If the form offers to reuse another post’s replies, enter the reply for this resource here.
Write the reply that will appear on the comment. - Enable the DM and write the message
Scroll down to They will get and turn on An automatic DM. A field for the private message will appear. Write the text that accompanies the resource:
Direct message
Here is the script with scenes and shots. Open the guide and download the text template.
Under They will get, turn on An automatic DM. The switch turns green and the message field appears. Complete the DM with a sentence explaining what the reader will find when they open the button. - Add the button that opens the resource
Below the message, find Link buttons and click Add link button. Two fields will appear: Button text and URL. Type
View scriptin the first and paste this address in the second:Button URL
https://heymark.ai/en/guides/reel-script-template/
The counter should change to 1/3. The form allows up to three buttons; one is enough here because we’re delivering one resource. Each URL appears as a button below the DM, and its label should explain what will open.
Add the button and complete its label and URL. - Prepare a reply if the DM cannot be sent
Return to the public reply block, just above They will get. Under If the DM cannot be sent, reply this instead, replace any existing text with a reply your team can follow up on:
Fallback reply
We could not send the DM. Message us to get the link.
This reply lets the commenter message you to ask for the link. Use it if your team can respond to those requests. DM delivery also depends on Instagram’s messaging conditions.
The fallback asks the reader to message you for the link. - Review the rule, then test it once the post is live
HeyMark attempts to save changes as you complete the form. If you see a message saying the changes could not be saved, resolve it before continuing. Close and reopen the form to check that it keeps the keyword, public reply, DM, button and fallback.
Open the URL in a window where you aren’t signed in and check the resource. Make sure you’re still on the right post. When everything is ready, click Activate automation. This activates the rule; turning on the DM field earlier only adds it to the configuration.
If the post is a draft: activate the rule before publishing or scheduling the Reel. Review the video, caption, Instagram account and publication date, then publish or schedule it when you are ready. The form confirms that replies start when the post is published. Scheduling the post does not send a DM before it goes live.
If the post is already published: activate the rule when you are ready for it to respond to matching comments.
This unedited draft shows when replies begin and where to activate the rule. The demo stops before activation. Once the post is live, comment
SCRIPTfrom another Instagram account. Check that you receive the public reply and DM, and that the View script button opens the right guide. Open the article’s template too and check that you can download it.If the DM doesn’t arrive, check whether the fallback reply appears and confirm the automation is active and belongs to that post. If the button opens the wrong destination, correct the URL before directing more people to the resource.
To send a different resource
If you replace the template with a menu, catalogue or another guide, update the word you ask for in the Reel, the public reply, the DM, the button label and its URL. Repeat the test from another account with the new link.
The Instagram comment-to-DM automation page explains how HeyMark’s rules work. To choose a closing line for another post, see the social media call to action examples.
Set up your first keyword reply
Start with a resource your audience can open. In HeyMark, choose the post and configure the word, messages and link button before activating the rule.
